Since 1999, the office has been situated in Rheda-Wiedenbr\u00fcck, a town with around 49,000 inhabitants and good transport connections to the A2 motorway and to the East-West railway which runs from Cologne to Berlin, via Dortmund and Hannover. The airport of Paderborn\/Lippstadt is 50 km away from Rheda-Wiedenbr\u00fcck and the airports of Dortmund and M\u00fcnster\/Osnabr\u00fcck are 70 km away respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within 60 km of\nRheda-Wiedenbr\u00fcck, the High Courts of Bielefeld, Detmold, Paderborn and M\u00fcnster\ncan be found, as well as the Appeal Court in Hamm which has the largest court\ncircuit in Germany and an authoritative jurisdiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The region of East\nWestphalia-Lippe is a classic example of an industrial region with a\ntraditional character. It has always succeeded in regenerating itself without\nthe need for State intervention, thanks to its medium-sized companies. Besides\nits industrial diversity, the region is also attractive to tourists as a\nrecreation area and as \u201cthe sanctuary of Germany\u201d due to its unusually high\nnumber of well-known spas and health resorts, as well as the famous,\ntraditional, welfare institutions. Not so long ago, based on the above, the\nregion succeeded in distinguishing itself, not just from the State of North\nRhine Westphalia, but from the whole of Germany because of its above average\nrate of development. This is further demonstrated by\nthe municipal trade tax revenue as well as the proportion of workers employed\nby the local commercial economy, whereby East Westphalia-Lippe is clearly one\nof Germany\u2019s forerunners in this context. The number of workers subject to\nmandatory social security contributions has risen from 500,000 in 1984 to\n680,000 in the year 2016. In September 2018, the unemployment rate was 3.7%,\npractically a state of full employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, despite the initially\nfavourable starting conditions of post-war Germany, the region has not been\nleft unharmed by trade crises. The significance of the traditional industries in this region – textiles and clothing, cigars,\nfurniture – has been greatly reduced. The manufacturers of the past have become\nmarketing firms who design brands and sell them. These products are\nmanufactured abroad, in either their own factories or, in another\u2019s factory.\nOther well known textile companies include JAB\nAnstoetz <\/strong>and Seidensticker<\/strong> in\nBielefeld as well as Brax<\/strong> in\nHerford. Around one third of the German furniture industry is still based in\nthe region, including the firms Schieder\n<\/strong>& Welle<\/strong> in Paderborn and Interl\u00fcbke<\/strong> and COR<\/strong> in Rheda-Wiedenbr\u00fcck, as well as Poggenpohl <\/strong>in Herford and Nobilia<\/strong>\nin G\u00fctersloh. The roll of employment stability has steadily been taken over by\nconstruction of machines and electronics. This growth has occurred as well as a\nresult of the development of the public service sector and of commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversity of small and medium sized\nbusinesses is still important today for the vitality of the East\nWestphalia-Lippe region, so much so that, without this diversity of businesses\nknown throughout Germany and abroad, the economy would be incomplete. Amongst\nthose businesses, we can include Bertelsmann<\/strong>,\none of the biggest employers in the region and Miele<\/strong>, one of the leading washing machine manufacturers, both in\nG\u00fctersloh. The agricultural machinery manufacturer, Claas<\/strong>, in Harsewinkel, is another firm also well known abroad.\nOther well known firms include the food manufacturers Kuchenmeister GmbH G\u00fcnter Trockels<\/strong> of Soest and Oetker<\/strong> of Bielefeld, and the paper\nfilter manufacturer Melitta<\/strong> in Minden.\n\n\n\n\n\nble 4 Accent <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
